Happy Harry

Well, the only thing constant is change. Our little man, who we used to nickname "Harry Fit" because his patience was so very limited has become "Happy Harry"! He loves to giggle and coo and smile huge wide grins whenever you smile at him. Productivity at home has ground to a halt as a result. It's very addictive to just sit and smile at them both all day long now. You sound ridiculous, of course, because the smiles are only accompanied by giggles if you make lugubrious "GOOOOO" noises over and over, but hey, that's parenthood.
Heidi has changed too. Our once placid little girl has turned into a real baby, one who occasionally cries, fusses and occasionally yells. She still sleeps too, though...
I thought once they got head control they would be easier to hold at the same time, but now they're heavier. They're also squirmier, and try to make a break for it whenever we put them on Brendan's lap.

We had a lovely weekend with the Coles to celebrate mine and Betty's December birthdays. What a slice of life shot; Coles playing a board game, and Rob juggling both babies (Father of the year).

Heidi In The Bumbo

It's Heidi's turn in the bumbo, and she did great. You know how they say some people smile just with their eyes... Heidi, not so much! The babies really have moved out of their newborn stage; it's hard for me to fathom. This morning I met with a few of the other mothers in the neighbourhood (we have a clothing exchange co-op type arrangement going on) and I had more clothes to give away. How dare they grow so fast! They love to lie on their mat and grab toys now. Heidi loves chomping away on anything she can find, I hope teething isn't starting already!!! Also wanted to include a few photos from our train day...

Brendan's train day

We treated the big brother of the house to a special train day today. Rob found out there was an train movie playing at the imax at the science centre in toronto called the Rocky Mountain Express. We decided to make a whole spectacular train day of it, so we drove to the Oshawa train station to get the GO train. Brendan sees it beside the highway every time we go through Toronto and always asks about it. Rob drove with the twins and picked Brendan and I up 7 stations down the line. Unfortunately to get to the science centre from the closest GO station involves a subway, then a bus, and we just weren't willing to attempt that with the twins in a stroller. So Rob picked us up and we all drove on to the movie. Brendan had a great time on the train and was very excited to sit on the upper level. We had an exciting moment getting off the train. The speakers announced we had arrived at Danforth so Brendan and I got off and started walking down the platform. We stopped to wave goodbye to the train and saw the conductor standing in the doorway. I quickly asked her which way the exit was and double checked "this is Danforth,  right?". " yeah,  yeah" she said and then suddenly did a double take and said "No, no its Scarborough, sorry"! Yikes! So we ran back on the train and rode it one more stop. The twins and Rob loved the imax movie. Brendan not so much.  Poor kid. We were all set in the theatre, and he was very excited but as soon as the lights went out and the music came on ( granted, at top volume) he freaked out. He and I spent the remainder of the 40 minute movie alternating between standing outside the theatre and just inside the door.  Guess he's not ready for movie theatres yet. Oops. All in all, it was a very... er, memorable day. (:

Bumbo!

Harrison tried sitting up in the bumbo for the first time today and lasted a whole 4 minutes! Brendan loves sitting in the bumbo too. Nothing like a baby brother to remind you of all the baby toys you forgot you wanted to play with!

3 Months Old

Wow! The twins are three months old today. Time flies! They are clearly no longer newborns, and are spending more time each day staring at toys on their play mat, smiling and making noise. I am boggled by the box of clothes they have grown out of already. I spent most of the day trying to extract the next batch of "3 month size" clothes they will be growing into from the storeroom. I really need to be more organized about these things. Between the totes of Brendan's baby clothes, the dresses my mother saved from my infancy, the clothes we have received as hand me downs and the all the wonderful gifts they received it was an all day task. But man, are they ready to hit the town lookin' good now! I forgot to include Paddington Bear in our 3 month photo shoot a few days ago, so here is the official 3 month photo with Paddington for scale. Also I included a series of Heidi's smiles; pleasant, happy and ecstatic...

October Photos - Part 2 (of 2)

My new favourite thing to dress Heidi in is a teeny tiny skirt. I'm so eating crow on not dressing my daughter in pink and frilly dresses! I would also like to point out Heidi's natural born talent for Highland Dancing in this photo. Note the excellent hand and arm position!
Brendan helped me make Chocolate Cake for the Hallowe'en Party!
Brendan loves his "babies".
Heidi has certainly found her hands!

October Photos

Uploaded the pictures off of our camera today. Brendan had his first check up at the dentist this month. He was then keen to show his teeth to everyone who would look, not totaly socially appropriate behaviour... We're a part of the Lonsdale baby boom. Here is a picture of Baby Michael (10 months old), the twins (2 months old) and Baby Jeff (3 1/5 months old) all together! A family photo (minus Brendan and Blaze, I should be careful when I refer to 'the family') at the neighbourhood wedding a few weeks ago A family picnic (the whole family this time!) after our hike at the conservation area north of the house a few weeks ago
Stay tuned for another post of pictures...

Harrison starting to smile

We got a smirk on camera taking 3 month photos this morning ( a few days early but they were dressed in sort of matching outfits and both awake so I took advantage of the opportunity ). Harrison is starting to smile every now and then,  giggled for the first time this week and has been starting to coo. He appears to be a real all or nothing Guy. Heidi smiles lots, but never at the things we do. I'd love to know what she's thinking ...

A warm Sunday

We celebrated the balmy temperature today by exploring the waterfront trail in deseronto. As you can see from the picture the water is conspicuously absent from this section of the trail, but it was still a pretty path through the woods.

Our original plan for the day had been to go out for breakfast to Mike's (the restaurant at the 401) but we still hadn't left the house by 2:30 so a change of plans seemed in order. Flexibility certainly seems to be a requirement for families with twins! That, or an inability to tell time.

Looking at toys!

New milestone! The twins are focusing on and trying to reach for toys. I think Harrison made contact for the first time on purpose yesterday. All heck is gonna break loose when they start to go for the same toy. This playmat may become too small for the both of them! Or should I say all 3 of them ...

All the kids in costume!

A wonderful night! Brendan visited all our neighbors and even got his first can of pop. Luckily the bubbles freaked him out and be wanted no part of it after the first sip! We had all of 16 kids this year. This living in the country is weird at Halloween ...
